<Underwater Creatures' Photo Books (images from 100 divers from all over the world) as a donation for the children in the developing countries! >
(Photo Book has been completed in December 2010.)
→more info

<About "Photo Book Project">
■ I initiated this photo book project to give children in developing countries an opportunity to see the beautiful ocean and its wonderful creatures.
■ My goal is to collect photos of beautiful underwater creatures from 100 divers from all over the world, both professional & amateur underwater photographers, for this project.
■ My idea is to list those photos from A to Z according to the creatures' common names, and provide some simple educational information on marine preservation (for a few pages) as well.
■ I aim to print at least 1,000 copies or more of the book and donate them to an NPO which delivers books to the children who lack basic educational resources.
■ I want to give those children a chance to see how beautiful the ocean & underwater creatures are, and how important it is to protect them!
*I'm prepared to credit all photographers that participate and include their names and websites in the book if I use their photos.
*I will only use the photo once for this photo book project, and not for any other purpose. If I use photographer's images for this photo book, I will send a copy to each of them when it is
completed.
*The photo data you send me has to be your own, and its copyright must not belong to anyone else. →more info about photo data & information I need.
*This photo book will be written in English.
*I'm planning to donate at least 1,000 copies or more of these photo books to
Room to Read, an NPO that delivers books to children who lack basic educational resources.
*I'm hoping to complete this photo book during 2010, but it will depend on how long it takes to collect enough photos from 100 divers and photographers.
→ The photo book has been completed in December 2010.
*The photos from divers / photographers who are helping my project and their websites & profiles are added on the ★100 diver's photos page.
*This project can be completed if I can get the support & help from many divers / photographers who care about the ocean, its creatures, and also the next generations (children). I'm not only
collecting photos, but also asking for love & warm heart from those divers who care.
Thank you very much for your love & warm heart!

■ Background of the idea for this "photo book project"
* In December 2007, an American acquaintance who is supporting Room to Read, invited me to the launch of the book
"Leaving Microsoft to Change the World" which was held in Tokyo, celebrating the publication of the book in Japan. Room to Read
is an NPO that initiates activities to support children’s education in developing countries.
The book was written by John Wood, a founder of Room to Read. At the party I met John Wood and told him how deeply I was moved by his passion. I read his book and the Room to Read
concept and philosophy resonated strongly with me.
-- "World Change Starts with Educated Children".
Since then, I wondered how I could help those children who lack basic educational resources. I also wanted to do something for them, not only by sending them money, but also in my own original
way.
*Some time had passed and one day in early January 2010, another friend of mine sent me a message on Facebook, telling me that her children loved looking at my photos of underwater creatures. I
have been posting my photos and building up links with divers from all over the world for several years now. I knew my photos were not very good at all, but she (who is not a diver) told me that
her children asked her many times to show them the photos of the underwater creatures on my Facebook page. From this moment, I started seriously thinking about donating underwater creatures'
photo books to Room to Read.
*Like other divers, I'm one of the lucky people who can go diving and actually see a variety of creatures underwater. Thanks to the Internet, I can also see many vivid images of a variety of
creatures taken by many divers / photographers in the world. But what about children whom Room to Read is helping? Many of those children don't have books to read, let alone a TV / DVD or
computer. And I assume most of them don't even have a chance to see the ocean. They may be able to get some books about fairy tales and illustrated books from donors, but I thought it might be
difficult or almost impossible for them to see the photos of many underwater creatures.
*I want to donate as many underwater photo books as I can, at least 1,000 books
or more. But fish or ocean books are usually $35-$50 or even more expensive on the market. I knew I couldn't donate the total cost for buying 1,000 books by myself.
So I thought about making a simple original photo book by myself. But I also knew my underwater images were not good enough quality for the photo book, and it would probably take more than 20 years for me to collect images of good enough quality.
So I started thinking about asking other divers / photographers to donate their vivid images for this book. I might be able to organize a project to make an original underwater creatures' photo book by asking other divers / photographers for help, and donate these books to the children in the developing countries.
I thought my idea and my request would seem to be ridiculous, and even rude to some photographers. But I started to think positively: What else can I do? This is probably the best & the fastest way I can make this photo book and send it to those children.
Life is short, and I will never know if I will be still alive next year.
*Finally, in mid January 2010, I decided to carry out this "Photo Book Project", as
I believe many divers would share my love for the ocean & its creatures.

Leaving Microsoft to Change the World -- by John Wood
"In 1998, John Wood was a rising executive at Microsoft when he took a vacation that changed his life. What started as a trekking holiday in Nepal became a spiritual journey and then a mission: to change the world one book and one child at a time by setting up libraries in the developing world." -- from a website of Room to Read
